The Amazon Customer Journey was a proof of concept showcased at CES 2020. It reimagined vehicle purchasing as a seamless, omnichannel experience powered by a centralised, cloud-based platform. Problem

The traditional vehicle purchasing journey is fragmented across multiple disconnected touchpoints, from initial discovery through to dealership engagement. Customers often experience inconsistent messaging, repeated steps, and a lack of continuity between digital and physical interactions. For brands, this fragmentation makes it difficult to deliver a cohesive, personalised experience or leverage customer data effectively. There was an opportunity to rethink the journey as a unified system - one that connects every interaction into a single, seamless flow tailored to modern, multi-device behavior.

Discovery

Our solution was an omnichannel-first vehicle shopping journey built around a centralised cloud platform. Instead of isolated touchpoints, each interaction - Prime Video advertising, email engagement, configurator experiences, dealership applications, and post-visit materials - became part of a continuous, connected narrative. The system allowed users to move fluidly between channels while maintaining context, preferences, and progress. This created a consistent, personalized experience that aligned with how customers naturally explore, evaluate, and purchase vehicles today.

Design & Iteration

As Lead Designer, I was responsible for shaping the end-to-end experience across all touchpoints, from early discovery through to dealership interaction and final customer takeaway. I developed user flows that connected each stage of the journey, ensuring continuity and reducing friction as users moved between devices and environments. Wireframes were used to establish structure and interaction patterns, followed by high-fidelity designs that aligned with both Amazon and Cadillac brand expectations. The design challenge centered on consistency across diverse platforms while allowing each touchpoint to feel native to its context. This included designing for Prime Video ad experiences, email communications, interactive vehicle configurators, in-dealership applications, and personalised digital brochures. Each interface needed to feel cohesive as part of a larger system while remaining optimized for its specific medium. Iteration focused on refining transitions between touchpoints, maintaining user context, and ensuring that personalisation felt meaningful rather than intrusive.
